Who this course is for

Civil, commercial, and employment mediation is widely practiced outside the court system, including in workplaces, businesses, organizations, and private dispute resolution settings. Many mediators work with parties who voluntarily seek mediation to resolve conflicts efficiently, confidentially, and without litigation.

This training is designed for professionals who want to develop practical mediation skills applicable in private civil mediation, workplace and organizational settings, and—where applicable—court-connected mediation programs.

Course Description

Learn new or add to your existing skills in working more effectively to resolve various types of disputes.  Civil, Commercial, and Employment Mediation Training meets the training requirements of the Oklahoma District Court Mediation Act for civil and commercial mediation in Oklahoma.

Mediation training, however, is broadly applicable beyond court-connected programs. Participants commonly use the skills taught in this course in private civil mediation, workplace and organizational settings, and other non-court contexts. Requirements for court rosters vary by state and program.

This course explains, illuminates, and provides necessary skills for successful mediations, with emphasis on personal injury litigation, commercial disputes, real estate disputes, and employment/discrimination workplace disputes. Registration is open to anyone wanting to develop professional civil mediation skills or add mediation skills to their existing professional role.

There are no specific educational or vocational prerequisites for taking this course. Mediation training focuses on developing facilitation, communication, and conflict resolution skills rather than professional licensure.

In Oklahoma, this course satisfies the training requirement for court approval as a civil and commercial mediator. Participants from other states should review applicable court or program requirements where relevant.

Civil Mediation Training allows participants to:

  • Create new career opportunities
  • Increase earning potential
  • Apply ethics to mediation situations
  • Add mediation services to your practice
  • Improve your resume
  • Gain needed skills for resolving daily conflict

Continuous Education Credit

This course has been approved by the Oklahoma Bar Association MCLE Committee for attorneys licensed in Oklahoma to receive 24 hours MCLE including 2 hours ethics.
